US President Donald Trump has said that “very positive talks” are underway with Iran aimed at resolving ongoing tensions, including the crisis surrounding maritime security in the region.
He also stated that the United States will soon begin providing security for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. The Strait of Hormuz has faced disruptions amid recent regional hostilities.
According to Iranian state television, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghei said Tehran has submitted a 14-point proposal focused on ending the conflict. He added that Washington had responded to the plan through Pakistani mediation, involving Pakistan as an intermediary.
Trump, posting on the social media platform Truth Social, said his representatives were engaged in constructive discussions with Iranian officials and expressed optimism that the talks could lead to a positive outcome for both sides.
The development comes after previous exchanges of attacks between the two sides, followed by reports of a ceasefire. Subsequent diplomatic efforts are now said to be underway as part of attempts to stabilize the situation.
