Meta has introduced a new privacy-focused feature called Incognito Chat for its AI assistant on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, allowing users to hold conversations that the company says are completely private and inaccessible even to Meta itself.
According to Meta, Incognito Chat is powered by WhatsApp’s Private Processing technology, which processes messages in a secure environment. Conversations are not stored, disappear by default when a session ends, and cannot be viewed by Meta or other third parties.
The feature is designed for users who wish to discuss sensitive topics such as health concerns, financial matters, or personal advice without having their conversations saved or linked to their accounts.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the feature as a “completely private way to interact with AI,” adding that it is intended to provide privacy protections similar to end-to-end encrypted messaging.
Initially, Incognito Chat will support text-based conversations only, with image uploads and generation disabled. Meta said the feature will roll out gradually on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app over the coming months.
