Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Arrives in Sri Lanka

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Sri Lanka this afternoon on a special Indian Air Force aircraft, beginning a three-day official visit that will continue until September 10.

The visit is aimed at further strengthening defence cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

During his stay, Singh is scheduled to hold discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, Defence Ministry Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuiyakontha, and other senior officials.

According to Indian media reports, the talks are also expected to focus on the implementation of the Indo-Lanka Defence Cooperation Agreement, which was signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka last year.

The visit is considered significant as it marks the first official visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Sri Lanka in 38 years.
