Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya told Parliament today (10) that the activity-based learning approach to be introduced under the new education reforms will significantly reduce the burden of books carried by school students.
She said learning materials would be kept in classrooms, eliminating the need for students to carry them between home and school every day.
The Prime Minister also announced that a modular learning system would be introduced for Grade 6 students from 2027.
Dr. Amarasuriya explained that the learning modules would not be bulky textbooks. Instead, students would receive only the specific module required for the subject being taught during a particular term.
She said the approach would significantly reduce the weight of students’ schoolbags while supporting the Government’s broader education reforms.
