Colombo Fort Railway Operations Disrupted After Train Derails at Station

Train services at Colombo Fort Railway Station have been disrupted after a train derailed at the station, blocking operations on two platforms.

The incident occurred at around 4:35 p.m. when Train No. 1164, scheduled to depart from Colombo Fort to Rambukkana at 4:45 p.m., derailed while entering the platform after arriving late.

According to initial reports, two wheels of one carriage came off the tracks during the derailment.

Railway officials said the incident is reportedly the second derailment involving the same train, which had also experienced a similar issue on July 7.

Railway authorities are currently working to remove the derailed carriage and clear the obstruction to restore normal train operations.

Passengers have been advised that several office trains scheduled during the evening peak hours may experience minor delays due to the disruption.
