Trump Rejects Iran’s Seven-Day Roadmap to End War and Reopen Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, as Tehran maintained that diplomacy remains the only way to resolve the conflict between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Saturday, Trump said Iran was seeking an immediate agreement to reopen the strategically important maritime route because, in his view, the country was “losing so badly.”

“They want to make a deal, and I think that’s fine. I’d like to make a deal, too,” Trump said, while adding that the proposal put forward by Iran “would not be acceptable.”

Iran announced the seven-day plan on Friday during the United Nations General Assembly. The proposal calls for the United States to release frozen Iranian funds, lift sanctions on Iranian oil exports and end its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the measures could be implemented within four to five days. Under the proposal, this would allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen and negotiations on a final agreement to begin by the seventh day.

Following Trump’s rejection, Araghchi said Iran would not retreat from its conditions. In a post on his Telegram channel on Saturday, he said Tehran had seen the US president’s initial response but had not yet received an official message through mediators.

“We have seen the first reaction from the US president, but nothing has been conveyed to us from the mediators yet,” Araghchi wrote.

He also accused Trump of making contradictory statements in the past and said Iran was waiting for the mediators to communicate Washington’s definitive position.

Araghchi said Tehran would decide its next steps after receiving the formal response, adding that “only a negotiated solution” could resolve what he described as the current deadlock between the two sides.
