Sri Lanka Passport Ranked 169th Globally

Sri Lanka’s passport has been ranked 169th globally, reflecting limited international travel access compared with many countries, according to data published by Passport Reports, an independent platform tracking passport strength and visa access worldwide.

Sri Lanka recorded a mobility score of 53. According to the platform, Sri Lankan passport holders can travel to 15 destinations without a visa, obtain visas on arrival in 34 destinations, and access four countries through electronic travel authorization (ETA).

However, travellers holding Sri Lankan passports are required to obtain visas in advance for 145 destinations, highlighting the restrictions on international mobility.

Among countries in the region, India is ranked 131st, China 97th, Russia 75th and Pakistan 183rd. Libya, with a ranking of 175th, is also positioned relatively close to Sri Lanka.

At the top of the global ranking is the United Arab Emirates, followed by Singapore in second place, Spain in third, Malaysia in fourth and Luxembourg in fifth.

Other countries with rankings close to Sri Lanka include Nepal at 171st, Myanmar at 168th and Ethiopia at 173rd. European countries such as France, ranked sixth, and Norway, ranked seventh, provide their citizens with considerably broader international travel access.

Passport Reports describes itself as an independent global mobility platform that provides information on passport strength and visa access. Rather than relying solely on a single ranking, the platform separates visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival access, electronic travel authorization and destinations requiring visas in advance to provide a broader picture of the travel access available to passport holders.
