SLPP MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena Says Opposition Unity Marks Major Political Shift

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena says it is a significant political development that figures who had never previously shared the same political platform are now working together within the same camp.

He made these remarks while attending a meeting titled “Let’s defeat thieves and liars with one hand,” where he discussed the evolving nature of party alliances in Sri Lankan politics.

Abeygunawardena noted that in the past there was a deep political divide between the United People’s Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, describing the relationship as highly antagonistic.

He further pointed out that the current political landscape shows a different picture, where ministers such as Rajitha Senaratne and Nimal Siripala de Silva are now engaging in dialogue, while Sagala Ratnayake is also part of the same political circle.

“We were all in the same camp,” he was quoted as saying, adding that past party differences had not created personal hostility. He emphasized that a unified political approach is now necessary in addressing the current government.
