SJB to Launch Disciplinary Inquiry Against Charith Abeysinghe Following Arrest

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa announced that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will conduct a disciplinary inquiry into Horana electorate organiser Charith Abeysinghe following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Premadasa made the statement in Parliament on Thursday while responding to a question raised by Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara regarding the arrest.

“We will definitely conduct a disciplinary inquiry and take the strongest possible action. There is absolutely no place in our party for criminals,” the Opposition Leader said.

Abeysinghe and Attorney-at-Law Rakitha Rajapakshe, the son of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, were arrested earlier in the day by CIABOC over alleged links to an underworld-related bribery scheme.

According to investigators, the suspects are accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe from Madhushika Madhuwanthi, the wife of alleged organized crime figure Nandun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, widely known as “Harak Kata,” while in Dubai in 2023.
