Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, is scheduled to be taken to the National Eye Hospital today (09) for specialist medical treatment, a Prisons Department spokesperson said.
The spokesperson stated that Rajapaksa was referred to a prison medical specialist yesterday (08) after complaining of an eye condition. Following the specialist’s medical recommendation, arrangements have been made for her to receive further treatment at the National Eye Hospital instead of a private medical facility.
Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged financial irregularities involving the ‘Siriliya Saviya’ account.
Following her production before court, the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered her to be remanded until October 13.
