A Senior Assistant Secretary attached to the Parliamentary and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat has been arrested over allegations of forging a passport in another individual’s name to assist an organized criminal in fleeing the country.
The arrest was carried out by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
Investigations revealed that the 41-year-old suspect, a resident of Kandy, allegedly committed the offense during his previous tenure as Deputy Controller of the Foreign Missions Division at the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Authorities say he abused his official position to facilitate the issuance of fraudulent travel documents.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku, DIG Chandana Kodithuwakku, and SSP Kamal Ariyawansa.
Further investigations are currently underway by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
