No Fuel Price Hike Planned in India Amid Middle East Tensions, Government Clarifies

Amid rising concerns over possible fuel price increases in India due to tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the Union government has clarified that there is no plan to raise fuel prices.

Public anxiety had grown with speculation that fuel prices could be increased after the second phase of voting in the West Bengal elections, which concludes today (29). Elections have already been completed in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, with counting scheduled for May 4.

However, Sujatha Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, dismissed the rumours, stating that no price revision has been made and the public should not be alarmed.

She also assured that India currently has adequate reserves of petrol, diesel, and gas, despite fluctuations in international energy markets.

According to her, the country has ensured 100% supply of LPG for domestic and transport needs, while commercial gas cylinder supply has been restored up to 70%.

She added that priority supply is being given to hospitals and educational institutions, and the distribution of 5 kg LPG cylinders commonly used by migrant workers has been doubled.
