Jaffna MP Ramanathan Archuna Allegedly Threatens Women During Land Dispute Incident

An incident involving Jaffna District Member of Parliament Ramanathan Archuna has sparked public concern after he was allegedly accused of threatening two women at gunpoint in the Periyavilan area on April 25.

According to reports, the dispute is linked to a land ownership case currently pending before the Mallakam Court. MP Archuna claims ownership of the land, while another party also asserts rights over the same property.

The incident is said to have occurred while the MP was carrying out land-clearing activities on the disputed site. During this time, two women arrived at the location and objected, claiming that part of the land belonged to them. A verbal argument reportedly broke out between the parties.

It has been alleged that during the confrontation, the MP suddenly drew a handgun and threatened the women, who were unarmed.

The incident has triggered public concern, with some groups previously raising questions about the potential risks associated with the MP’s possession of a firearm. The weapon in question has not yet been recovered.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident, while the public has expressed fears that tensions surrounding the land dispute could escalate further if not addressed.
