Former Hambantota Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando Found Dead in Bambalapitiya

Former Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council Eraj Ravindra Fernando has been found dead at a flat in Bambalapitiya, according to police.

Police said Fernando’s body was found hanging inside the flat. The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, with police suspecting that he may have died by suicide.

Fernando was 57 years old.

He entered local politics with the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and was elected Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council in 2014.

He was subsequently re-elected as Mayor in 2018 with the support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
