Election Commission of India Announces By-Elections for Three Assembly Seats - Delay in Tamil Nadu Seats Raises Questions

The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for three vacant assembly seats in the states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

According to the announcement, by-elections will be held for one seat each in the three states following resignations, disqualifications, and a death.

In Bihar, the Bankipur Assembly seat fell vacant after the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Nabin. In Madhya Pradesh, the Tatiya seat became vacant following the disqualification of Rajendra Bharti. In Gujarat, the Manjalpur seat fell vacant following the death of sitting MLA Yogeshbhai Narandas Patel.

Polling for these constituencies will be held on July 30, while vote counting is scheduled for August 3. The filing of nominations will begin on July 6 and close on July 13. Scrutiny will take place on July 14, and the final date for withdrawal of nominations is July 16.

However, the absence of by-election announcements for several vacant seats in Tamil Nadu has drawn attention.

Reports indicate that while five Tamil Nadu constituencies including Trichy East, Ambasamudram, Perundurai, Madhurantakam, and Tiruppur were declared vacant by the end of May, by-elections for these seats have not yet been announced.

The delay has prompted questions, particularly as by-elections were announced for the Gujarat seat that fell vacant in June.

Political observers have also noted recent resignations and party switches by some leaders, including former AIADMK members reportedly aligning with the TDP, raising speculation about whether further political developments may be influencing the timing of election announcements.

The situation has led to questions over why by-elections for Tamil Nadu seats have not been included in the current schedule, and whether administrative or political factors are behind the delay.
