DMC Activates 117 Emergency Hotline Amid Heavy Rainfall and Disaster Risks

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has activated the emergency hotline 117 to minimise the impact of the prevailing disaster situation caused by heavy rainfall and to facilitate immediate search and rescue operations.

DMC Director Major General (Retd.) Sampath Kotuwegoda said the hotline has been introduced to provide important information to the public and ensure better coordination of relief services during emergencies.

He added that members of the public can use the 117 emergency operation number to report disaster-related incidents and obtain necessary assistance as authorities continue responding to weather-related challenges across affected areas.
