The death toll from the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June has risen above 6,000, with authorities reporting more than 6,100 fatalities as recovery and debris-clearing operations continue.
According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez, the official death toll has reached 6,125, while nearly 61,000 people have received medical treatment following the disaster.
The powerful earthquakes, which struck on June 24, caused widespread destruction across parts of northern Venezuela, including severe damage in coastal areas. Rescue and recovery teams continue working to clear collapsed structures, with authorities reporting that only a portion of the debris has been removed so far.
The disaster has also left thousands of people displaced, with humanitarian concerns growing over housing, healthcare, sanitation, and the long-term impact of the destruction.
Officials have continued to face criticism over the pace of the emergency response, while the government maintains that relief and reconstruction efforts are underway.
