Warm Weather Advisory Issued for Eastern Province and Several Districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for residents of the Eastern Province and the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya, Polonnaruwa, and Monaragala.

According to the advisory, the heat index—the temperature felt by the human body—is expected to reach the 'Caution Level' in parts of the Eastern Province and the affected districts during daytime on Saturday, August 1.

The Meteorology Department said the Heat Index Forecast is calculated using the maximum air temperature and relative humidity to indicate how hot the conditions feel to the human body.

The department warned that prolonged exposure to the sun and extended outdoor activities could result in fatigue, while continued physical exertion may lead to heat cramps.

Authorities have advised the public to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight where possible, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.
