Suriya’s Mounam Pesiyadhe Returns to Theatres After 24 Years

After 24 years, Suriya’s much-acclaimed romantic drama Mounam Pesiyadhe is set to return to theatres, offering audiences a chance to experience the film on the big screen once again.

While an official release date has not yet been announced, fans are expecting the re-release to take place around Valentine’s Day in February.

Originally released in 2002, Mounam Pesiyadhe was written and directed by Ameer in his directorial debut. The film marked Trisha’s debut as a lead actress and was among the early Suriya films to feature music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Nandaa and Neha Pendse also made their debut appearances in the film, while Laila appeared in a cameo role.

The film revolves around the story of a stoic man and his tryst with love. It also featured actor Vidharth in one of his earliest screen appearances. Mounam Pesiyadhe emerged as both a critical and commercial success, with Yuvan Shankar Raja’s soundtrack receiving widespread acclaim. The film’s songs continue to enjoy enduring popularity among audiences even today.

Following the success of Mounam Pesiyadhe, Suriya and Trisha went on to star together in films such as Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004) and Aaru (2005). After more than two decades, the popular on-screen pair will reunite in RJ Balaji’s upcoming film Karuppu, which is currently awaiting a release date.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has also composed music for several other Suriya-led films, including Perazhagan (2004), Anjaan (2014), Massu Engira Masilamani (2015), and NGK (2019).
