Sri Lanka Extends State of Public Emergency by One Month

Sri Lanka has extended its State of Public Emergency for another month, following a decision by the President.

The extension was officially announced through a special gazette issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Kumanayake.

Authorities said the move was made in response to the disaster conditions caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The aim is to ensure public safety, maintain normal life across the country, and guarantee the continued supply of essential daily services.

In addition, the government has also prolonged the gazette that designates certain sectors as essential services. These include services provided by state corporations, government departments, local authorities, and cooperative societies.

As a result, key services such as electricity supply, fuel and gas distribution, healthcare, and public transportation will continue to operate under essential service regulations.
