The Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance (COPF) is preparing to launch an urgent investigation into the alleged diversion of US$2.5 million that was allocated for government loan repayments.
According to MP I. Chanakyan, who is a member of the committee, an urgent communication has already been sent to COPF Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva, requesting immediate attention to the matter.
The committee, which is responsible for overseeing public financial accountability, has reportedly requested that relevant officials be summoned without delay and that a comprehensive report be submitted for review.
Meanwhile, discussions on the issue are also taking place within the committee’s internal WhatsApp group, where members are coordinating preliminary inquiries into the alleged financial discrepancy.
Dr. Harsha de Silva has acknowledged during these discussions that the reported diversion is a matter requiring investigation. However, MP Chanakyan noted that a final decision or formal resolution from the COPF has not yet been reached.
The committee is expected to take further steps after reviewing official reports and hearing from relevant state authorities.
