A biopic based on former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth is currently in pre-production, according to the former fast bowler, who says the project will explore key moments of his life, including the controversial 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing allegations.
Sreesanth, once known for his swing bowling and aggressive on-field presence, was among several players accused in the high-profile 2013 IPL spot-fixing case, alongside teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan of Rajasthan Royals. While the Patiala House Court later acquitted them, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had imposed a suspension that effectively halted Sreesanth’s international career for several years.
The former cricketer has consistently maintained his innocence, stating in multiple interviews that he was wrongly implicated in the scandal.
In a recent interview with Mathrubhumi, Sreesanth confirmed that work is underway on a biographical series based on his life. He said the project will revisit events surrounding 2013 and aims to present what he describes as “the truth” behind the incident.
He also suggested that the series will go beyond controversy, describing it as an inspirational story rather than a sensational retelling. According to him, the narrative will focus on his personal journey, including his early life in Kerala and his emotional connection with cricket.
Sreesanth added that the project will portray “what exactly transpired” during the period, though he did not provide further details on the production team or release timeline. It is also not yet confirmed whether he will play himself or be portrayed by another actor.
The biopic is expected to cover both his cricketing achievements and the challenges he faced during and after the 2013 controversy.
