Showers Expected in Several Areas of Sri Lanka Today

Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (24), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Several spells of showers may occur in the North Western Province, the department said.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur at a few places in the Ampara, Monaragala and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail over the other parts of the island.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, North Central and North Western provinces, as well as in the Mannar, Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
