Saudi Forces Intercept Drone Targeting Mecca

Saudi Arabian authorities have reported that a drone launched from Yemen was intercepted and destroyed while flying toward the holy city of Mecca.

Saudi forces reportedly brought down the unmanned drone, which was carrying explosives, before it could reach its intended target.

The incident has raised concerns over security in and around Mecca, a city of profound religious significance to Muslims and the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad.

The attack comes amid the ongoing conflict involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and the internationally recognised Yemeni government. The Iran-aligned Houthis, who control significant areas of Yemen, have been involved in a prolonged confrontation with forces backed by Saudi Arabia.

The reported drone incident has renewed security concerns for pilgrims travelling to Mecca, particularly amid ongoing regional tensions.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the reported attack and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its support for measures to protect the security of the country and the safety of pilgrims.
