President Urges Muslims to Draw Inspiration from Prophet Muhammad on Milad-un-Nabi

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on Muslims in Sri Lanka and around the world to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad as they commemorate Milad-un-Nabi.

In a message marking the occasion, the President emphasised the values of equality, social justice, compassion and peaceful coexistence, urging Muslims to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and incorporate them into their daily lives.

President Dissanayake said Milad-un-Nabi should be more than a celebration and serve as an opportunity for spiritual reflection and transformation. He highlighted sacrifice as a central theme and said the occasion should inspire efforts to build a society based on equality and justice.

Describing Prophet Muhammad as one of humanity’s greatest teachers, the President said his life demonstrated patience and compassion and sought to guide people from darkness to light.

He noted that the Prophet’s hardships and sacrifices over 23 years were aimed at establishing a virtuous society founded on peace, brotherhood, purity, trustworthiness and justice.

The President also highlighted the Prophet’s rejection of discrimination based on race, caste, colour or social status, saying true greatness should be measured by qualities such as honesty, tolerance and compassion.

He further stressed the Prophet’s teachings on social justice and the protection of the rights of the oppressed, saying these principles remain relevant to Sri Lanka’s efforts to build a society governed by the rule of law, justice and equal treatment.

Call to Strengthen Moral Values

President Dissanayake also linked the Prophet’s teachings to the need to strengthen the moral values of contemporary society.

Referring to the government’s national campaign against illicit drugs, he said the moral values promoted through Islam could support efforts to protect society from harmful influences.

He expressed hope that Sri Lanka could enter a new era in which love replaces hatred, broken hearts are healed and brotherhood replaces estrangement.

National Milad Celebrations

The President’s message was issued as Muslims across Sri Lanka observe Milad-un-Nabi, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi celebration is being held at Al-Hilal College in Periyamulla, Negombo, under the patronage of President Dissanayake.

The President extended his wishes to Muslims in Sri Lanka and around the world and urged them to give true meaning to the Prophet’s life, dedication and teachings by applying his example to their daily lives and contributing to a more just, compassionate and harmonious society.
