Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to C. Joseph Vijay following his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressing confidence in cooperative governance between the Centre and the state.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister wished Vijay a successful tenure and emphasized the Central Government’s willingness to work closely with the Tamil Nadu administration for public welfare and development.
“Congratulations to Thiru C. Joseph Vijay upon assuming the office of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Best wishes for his tenure to be an outstanding one. The Central Government will continue to work in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Government to improve the lives of the people,” PM Modi said.
Signal of Centre–State Cooperation
Political observers say the Prime Minister’s message is being viewed as a positive indication of smooth coordination between the Central Government and the new state administration, with a shared focus on development and governance.
Major Political Shift in Tamil Nadu
Vijay, popularly known as “Thalapathy,” took oath as Chief Minister at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai after a significant political realignment that led to the formation of a new government.
His party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured support from multiple parties to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly, winning backing from 120 MLAs — comfortably above the required 118.
This development marks a historic shift, as Vijay becomes the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu since 1967 who is not from either the DMK or AIADMK, ending decades of dominance by the two major Dravidian parties.
Cabinet Formation
Alongside the swearing-in ceremony, Vijay also announced his cabinet, with several senior leaders taking oath as ministers in the new administration.
