The National Transport Commission (National Transport Commission) has confirmed that bus fares will not be revised despite the recent increase in diesel prices.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (Ceylon Petroleum Corporation) increased the price of Lanka White Diesel by Rs. 15 per litre and Super Diesel by Rs. 20 per litre, effective from midnight on May 30.
However, the NTC stated that an interim adjustment to bus fares will not be introduced at this stage.
Meanwhile, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association has called on authorities to consider an interim fare revision in response to the fuel price hike.
Speaking at a media briefing on May 31, Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said the adjustment should be implemented ahead of the annual bus fare revision scheduled for July.
The association is reportedly expecting a 5% fare increase to take effect from June 2.
