National Grid Operator Requests Rooftop Solar Users to Temporarily Switch Off Systems

The National System Operator (Private) Limited has requested owners of rooftop solar power systems to voluntarily switch off their solar installations until 3:00 p.m. today to support the stable operation of the national electricity grid during the Vesak festival period.

According to the operator, the request was made due to significantly low electricity demand currently being observed across the system. The unusually low demand requires careful management of power generation and distribution to maintain grid stability and reliability.

The National System Operator stated that public cooperation is crucial in ensuring a continuous and safe electricity supply for all consumers during this period. Officials emphasized that the temporary suspension of rooftop solar generation would assist in balancing the grid and preventing potential operational challenges.

Solar panel owners have therefore been urged to comply with the request as a short-term measure aimed at safeguarding the stability and reliability of the national power network.
