National Eye Hospital Staff Protest Unfair Transfers

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has announced that doctors at the Colombo National Eye Hospital will begin a strike today (22) to protest irregular staff transfers.

GMOA spokesperson Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said the strike is set to start at 8:00 a.m. today.

The GMOA also stated that strikes will continue across hospitals in the Eastern Province.

Additionally, the GMOA warned that, due to the government’s ongoing failure to meet commitments regarding doctors’ allowances, an indefinite trade union action is planned to begin tomorrow (23).
