England star Joe Root has achieved a historic milestone by becoming only the second batter in Test cricket history to score 14,000 runs.
The landmark was reached on the fourth day of the second Test between England Cricket Team and New Zealand Cricket Team at The Oval, London, when Root scored his second run in England’s second innings.
Root reached the milestone in his 165th Test match and 302nd innings. During his remarkable career, he has amassed 41 centuries and 66 half-centuries, cementing his place among the greatest batters in the history of the game.
The only player ahead of Root on the all-time Test run-scoring list is Sachin Tendulkar, who scored a record 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches. Root now trails Tendulkar's record by 1,921 runs.
Other legendary batters in the top ranks include Ricky Ponting with 13,378 runs, Jacques Kallis with 13,289 runs, and Rahul Dravid with 13,288 runs.
Meanwhile, England are chasing a target of 463 runs set by New Zealand on the fourth day of the Test match. Root’s achievement adds another chapter to an already outstanding career and strengthens his position among cricket’s all-time greats.
