The Israeli military said it detected missiles launched from Iran toward Israeli territory on Sunday, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions and the first such attack since a fragile ceasefire came into effect in April.
According to the Israeli army, air raid sirens were activated in several parts of the country after the missiles were identified. The military said its air defence systems were deployed to intercept the incoming threats.
Israeli officials later reported additional waves of missile launches from Iran, with air defence units continuing interception operations. No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were released.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the missile strikes were carried out in response to Israeli attacks in Lebanon, claiming that the Ramat David Air Base was among the targets.
The exchange has heightened concerns about a broader regional conflict, with both sides issuing warnings and military alerts as diplomatic efforts to ease tensions remain under pressure.
