International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah has met with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss concerns surrounding the Sri Lanka Cricket interim committee, according to Indian media reports.
The reports indicate that the situation involving the interim committee appointed to manage Sri Lanka Cricket was expected to be the main focus of discussions during the meeting.
Indian media further stated that the ICC President is likely to raise concerns regarding the appointment of the interim committee, which is being viewed as potentially inconsistent with ICC regulations.
The interim committee was appointed in April by Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage to oversee the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Meanwhile, cricket sources quoted in Indian media reports claim that the ICC sent a letter last week to Sri Lanka Cricket Chief Executive Officer Ashley de Silva. Although the contents of the letter have not been made public, it is reported that the ICC has urged Sri Lanka Cricket to hold democratic elections without delay to ensure proper governance and continuity of cricket administration in the country.
It is also reported that the interim committee had expected the ICC to provide an indefinite period to implement reforms, including drafting a new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket before elections are held.
