The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning that hot weather conditions are likely to prevail in several parts of the country today (3).
Accordingly, temperatures are expected to rise in the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Monaragala District of Uva Province.
The Department said the heat index, which indicates the temperature felt by the human body, is expected to reach the ‘Caution’ level in these areas during the day.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the effects of the hot weather.
People are urged to drink sufficient water, avoid direct exposure to sunlight as much as possible and limit outdoor activities during the hottest periods of the day.
Children, elderly persons and those engaged in prolonged outdoor work are advised to take extra precautions to prevent health issues associated with excessive heat.
