Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several Provinces in Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western, and Northern Provinces, as well as in parts of the Galle, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa districts.

According to the department, the prevailing weather conditions are being influenced by a low-pressure area located to the northeast of Sri Lanka.

Officials stated that the atmospheric lower-level circulation that developed near Sri Lanka has intensified into a low-pressure system and is currently positioned northeast of the island.

Due to the impact of this system, the current rainy weather conditions across the country are expected to continue over the next few days.

Most parts of the country are likely to experience cloudy skies with intermittent showers or thundershowers.

The Department of Meteorology has also advised the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
