Govt Ready to Begin Paddy Purchases for Upcoming Season - Deputy Minister

The government has completed all necessary preparations to commence paddy purchases for the upcoming season, Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation Aravinda Senarath told Parliament today (06).

He said paddy warehouses in most districts have already been opened, while further operational plans have been finalized based on anticipated harvest volumes.

The Deputy Minister also noted that a programme to systematically convert paddy stocks purchased during the previous season into rice and release them to the market is already underway.

“As of today, paddy warehouses have been opened in most districts and operations have been planned according to incoming harvest volumes. We have also initiated a programme to convert paddy purchased during the previous season into rice and release it to the market. The purchasing process has commenced and the required storage facilities are in place, so we do not expect any issues going forward”
