Gotabaya Rajapaksa Files Petition to Block Arrest Under PTA Over Easter Sunday Probe

Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed a petition before the Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka seeking an order preventing his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The petition was filed through Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena and names several senior police officials as respondents.

Among them are the Chandana Wickramaratne, Shani Abeysekara, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Madhava Gunawardena.

According to reports, the petition seeks legal protection against arrest in connection with ongoing investigations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The case is expected to be taken up before the Court of Appeal for consideration of interim relief sought by the former president.
