Case Against Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe Over Alleged Misuse of Public Funds to Be Heard Today

The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Property Act is scheduled to be taken up again at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (29).

The complaint alleges that Wickremesinghe misused government funds during a visit to London while serving as President, when he reportedly attended the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithri Wickremesinghe.

As part of the investigation, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recorded a statement from Maithri Wickremesinghe on April 24. The statement was obtained at her residence after she made a written request for CID officers to visit her home.
