Cabinet Approves Gazette Publication of 22nd Amendment and Judicature Amendment Bills

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the publication of the draft 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill and the Judicature (Amendment) Bill in the Government Gazette before they are presented to Parliament for approval.

According to Cabinet decisions released following the meeting held on August 3, the proposed legislation is intended to further strengthen the independence of the judiciary while improving the efficiency of Sri Lanka’s judicial system.

The Cabinet paper stated that the draft Bills were prepared following Cabinet approval granted on July 27, 2026, and had subsequently received clearance from the Attorney General regarding their constitutionality.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to publish the two draft Bills in the Gazette and proceed with their presentation to Parliament for consideration and approval.
