490 Arrested in Island-Wide Police Operations

Sri Lanka Police arrested 490 individuals during special island-wide operations conducted yesterday (25) to apprehend persons suspected of involvement in various criminal activities.

Police said 26,868 individuals were subjected to inspections during the operations, with 24 persons identified as being directly linked to criminal activities.

The operations also led to the arrest of 228 individuals wanted under day warrants and 148 persons wanted under open warrants.

Meanwhile, 37 individuals were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, while another 92 were taken into custody for reckless driving.

Legal action was also initiated against 4,036 individuals over various traffic offences, police said.
